The Cambridgeshire Cricket Association junior league scoring system is as follows: if a team wins it gets 20 points; if a team loses there is 1 point for each two wickets taken and 1 point for each multiple of 30 runs, but only up to 150 runs.
Thus finishing on 129 or 149 runs would be a silly thing to do, but we managed this ``feat'' twice during the season: just five more runs in those two matches would have given us 2 more points. This may not seem much, but 4 more points would have been enough to get us up to 6th and we would have avoided demotion into Division 3. It's also apparent that we were cabable of matching it with some of the better teams, but we narrowly failed to beat our nearest rival, Longstowe, in either match against them. They got 40 points from the two games; we got just 15 -- even if we'd won one of those matches we'd have been 6th instead of 7th.
