Report by Daniel Mortlock:
Romsey's final warm-up match took us to our sometime homeground at Fitzwilliam College to take on our mid-week sister club Remnants.
Fielding first due to our superior punctuality, we had the best of things early doors as Marcelino Gopal (0/12) and Robin Eddington (0/5) both got the orange ball to move in the air and proved very hard to score off. Later on we started to get some wickets as well, with Cameron Petrie (2/20) leading the way and Faruk Kara (1/20) unlucky when a few skiers didn't go to hand. Andy Owen had a field day 'keeping, with two stumpings and a catch to his name, and Harvey Hughes (1/16) bowled a superb spell at the death.
Still, we had our work cut out for us, and chasing 138 in the now cooler, damper and darker conditions was going to take some doing. Our start was steady, rather than explosive, as openers Richard Rex (18 off 30 balls) and Rod Dennis (14 off 26 balls) got their eye in, after which Andys Bell (13 off 17 balls) and Owen (20 off 18 balls) began a promising, if slightly belated, acceleration. But once they were both dismissed with a few overs to go we had to concede defeat - but hopefully we're at least in good shape for our first league match on Saturday.
