Report by Daniel Mortlock:
The persistent rain that ruined Australia's chances of getting a consolation Ashes win in the fifth Test also put paid to our chances of getting any cricket today.
Given that Milton's match was also washed out, it means that we're all but safe from relegation: we need just 3+ points (or a wash-out) against Milton next week to guaranteed that we don't finish in the bottom two. (The fact that this is even a discussion point is, well, a discussion point, but one for another day.) More positively, a win against Milton could actually see us climb a few spots: 20 points would take our average up to 10.75, which would be enough to leapfrog Little Shelford and Burrough Green if they lose to Thriplow and Helions Bumpstead, respectively, so we could finish as "high" as 14th.
Today's rain also simplifies our internal races for the batting and bowling awards. Ferdi Rex (265 runs at 88.33) is way out ahead in the former, but needs to bat once more to qualify; in the worst case scenario that he gets out for a duck his average would still be 66.25, and all but out of reach of anyone else - Daniel Mortlock (229 runs at 45.80) would have to smash an undefeated century to catch him and Nick Clarke (367 runs at 45.88) would have to break the club record score. (Which suggests an amendment to the current qualification rule: if a batsman's average would be high enough to win even if ducks were added to their record to get up to six innings, then maybe they should win even if they haven't actually batted six times.) The bowling is also all but decided, as Matt Commin (9 wickets at 16.33, and having bowled exactly the 240 balls required for qualification) is comfortably ahead of Andy Owen (18 wickets at 18.61), although if Andy took 3 wickets for 8 or less, 4 wickets for 24 or, 5 wickets for 40 or less or just about any plausible haul of 6 or more then he'd be able to complete a last-minute heist.
